visitors

My mom came to visit at the end of June, and it was great  having her around! Sam had BYU football camp and Sarah went to EFY at the U, so they decided to make a little roadtrip of it.

We went on a lot of walks, a great hike up the canyon, ate at Beehive Tea Room, toured Temple Square, and had an awesome BBQ with a lot of friends and family. LOVED having them around…..

splenda

Some summer days are just too perfect. It throws me back to elementary school days when mornings were careless and afternoons were easy and makes me wish it were always so simple. As the boredom of adulthood sets in, it’s generally much harder to piece together such perfection, but it appears that on Saturday I managed it. I’m blessed with the most wonderful sister to spend my time with, and lucky for me she also fell in love with one of my best friends. I suppose people find it odd that we all spend so much time together and that I don’t mind being the recurring third wheel, but they’re just so much fun, how can I complain?

We slept in and woke up to sunshine falling on our faces. After a long stroll around the neighborhood and relaxation on the hammock, we officially declared it “Cute Day”. Everything looked cute, we felt cute, our clothes were cute, and we were dying for some cute food. Boys never understand this concept… to them food is just food. But as we were driving around downtown Salt Lake, our only pleas were that whatever we ate be cute. Sometimes I don’t think Utah is capable of producing the aura we were after, but as it usually does, Utah proved us wrong and we found exactly what we were looking for. Beehive Tea Room. Otherwise known as heaven on earth. As we drove by scanning all the buildings, its decorated windows caught our eyes and we knew we just HAD to eat there. So we did, and Aaron and Peter were kind enough to cater to our intense desire for CUTE. Cute tea, cute salads, cute sandwiches, cute chairs, cute atmosphere, cute waitresses. CUTE CUTE CUTE. Not to mention the best chai tea I’ve ever had. As we left, the clouds were pouring and we ran down the sidewalk shrieking and laughing, surely a ridiculous site.

The day continued with lazy reading, a lovely tour of the Capitol Building landscape, and a most fabulous concert performed by the great Ben Kweller May every summer day be this slow and splendid…

fieldtrips

This morning I celebrated with not zero, not one, but TWO of my all time favorite things.

1. Einstein Bagels 2. Sunflower Market.

Why do I love Einstein Bagels?
a. It is always delicious
b. free sample cups. so many beverages to “sample”.
c. i worked there in high school, so i already know the best choices
d. ive been severely carb deprived lately, so sinking my teeth into a big juicy toasty bagel was heavenly
e. it’s leesh and i’s tradition. and i love traditions. (aaron came too. thanks for accompanying us, sir)

And what is Sunflower and why is it so great?
a. it’s a big beautiful market full of so much healthy food my brain could explode
b. fruits and veggies are so cheap and delicious. strawberries for 77 cents!!!
c. whenever i leave there i pay less than i anticipate and feel so healthy
d. it’s right around the corner from our house so i can walk there every day
e.they have a ginormous bulk food section with everything you can imagine. next week we’re teaching ourselves how to MAKE hummus. (i threw that in there just for the cool points)

yeah, we're awesome.

yeah, we're awesome.

tent

Camping is one of my favorite things to do, but for some reason I haven’t done it in a real long time. So, leave it to the Africa crew to put something like this together. Pure happiness. With several tents in hand (including Lindsi’s brand new one!), way too much food, and a lot of Africa lovers, we headed up to Willow Park in Lehi for a few days of fun. Camping is already great as it is, but this crew of people just rock my world. This was the perfect way to close a weird week. Loved it.

YAY

Time to announce the latest addition to my little family of transportation mechanisms…. THE SCOOTER!!! Yesterday I sold my car (not my regular car… my ghetto one that’s been dead and parked in the driveway since November) and was so excited, I turned around and bought a scooter. Probably the best summer gift to myself ever. Unfortunately last night I was packing and cleaning like crazy so I didn’t get to ride it around much, but now I have a whole weekend ahead of me to play :)

It’s so pretty!

It blizzarded this morning. Yes, in March. Yes it was miserable. And caused me to seriously question my state of residence. What am I doing here?!?
